Garlic is an important bulb vegetable belonging to the Allium family, along with onion, shallot, leek, and chives. It is particularly recognized for sulfur-containing compounds, including allicin, which contributes to its characteristic smell and taste. Garlic is generally grown in well-drained, fertile soil with suitable temperatures and adequate irrigation. In India, major garlic-producing states include Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Punjab. Proper harvesting, curing, drying, and storage are important for maintaining quality and preventing spoilage. Due to its high culinary demand, nutritional properties, and commercial importance, garlic is an important agricultural commodity.
