Palm oil is a highly versatile vegetable oil derived from the fruit of oil palm trees. It is the world’s most consumed vegetable oil, found in half of all supermarket products.

Product Information
Palm oil is an edible vegetable oil produced from the mesocarp (reddish pulp) of the fruit of the oil palm tree (Elaeis guineensis), native to West Africa but now primarily grown in Indonesia and Malaysia. These two nations account for roughly 85% of global supply. The oil is uniquely valued for its distinct chemical properties. It is semi-solid at room temperature, highly resistant to oxidation, and free of trans fats. Its exceptional smooth texture, high cooking temperature tolerance, and lack of odor make it a staple ingredient across multiple industries. It is widely used in processed foods like chocolate, instant noodles, and baked goods. Beyond food, it is a primary ingredient in personal care items like soaps and cosmetics, as well as biodiesel fuels. However, the industry faces severe scrutiny due to environmental and social challenges. Massive expansion of plantations has driven widespread deforestation, destroying critical habitats for endangered species like orangutans and releasing significant greenhouse gases. In response, international bodies promote Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) certification to encourage ethical farming. Despite these issues, palm oil remains vital because it is incredibly resource-efficient, yielding up to 10 times more oil per hectare than alternative oil crops like soy or sunflower.
